The Animal Referral Hospital is a 24-hour per day, 7 days per week, dedicated emergency and critical care (ECC) service. The service is staffed by specialists in ECC, emergency veterinarians, experienced emergency nurses, animal attendants and reception staff 24 hours. The service provides continuous care for our critical patients, as well as streamlined emergency admissions 24/7.

ARH is currently recruiting for experienced Emergency and Critical Care Nurses to join the team. There are various shifts available so we are open to considering both permanent and casual arrangements. To be considered for this role, candidates must have:

Essential Attributes

  • Minimum 4 years’ nursing experience in a busy general practice
  • Certificate IV in veterinary nursing or equivalent
  • Availability to work overnights, weekends and/or public holidays

The Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) is a leading group of veterinary hospitals offering a wide range of specialist services and providing 24-hour emergency and critical care throughout our facilities in NSW, ACT, SA and QLD. Services offered in our hospitals include internal medicine, surgery, oncology, ophthalmology, dermatology, behavioural medicine, exotics and avian, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, and physiotherapy.

We currently have an opportunity available for an experienced Veterinary Nurse, with an interest in Ophthalmology. The position will initially start off as a maternity leave contract with the potential for extension or permanency for the right candidate. Whether the role is part-time or full-time is open for discussion however it will require some flexibility around hours dependant on the needs of the service.

This position will work under the guidance of our Specialist Ophthalmologist and more broadly within our team vet and nursing staff. The successful candidate will be someone who is confident yet focused, observant with a strong eye for detail, and the ability to think quickly and take direction as required.

Essential Attributes:

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and/or Bachelor in Applied Science (Veterinary Technology) degree or equivalent
  • Sound knowledge and experience in anaesthetic monitoring and management is absolutely essential
  • Minimum 4 years’ nursing experience in a busy veterinary clinic
  • Experience in preparing prescriptions and communicating discharge instructions to clients
  • Experience in radiology, IV catheter placement and fluid therapy, patient ventilation
  • Experience in specialist surgical and theatre nursing
  • Experience in surgical patient care and treatment and intensive care patient monitoring.

Desireable Attributes:

  • Previous experience working in an Emergency and/or referral hospital
  • Previous Ophthalmology nursing experience highly desireable
  • Knowledge of Rx Works and Smartflow

The role

You will work predominantly under the guidance and mentorship of our internal medicine specialists, as well as more broadly within our team of professional veterinarians and expert nursing staff. You will also have close involvement with our other departments.

Interns are expected to participate in daily rounds, journal club meetings and case presentations. They will be encouraged to complete a published work during their internship and will be supported in the completion of ANZCVS medicine membership examination.

This internship offers an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated, hardworking, experienced and professional individual to work and learn in a busy and friendly referral hospital team. It provides the perfect opportunity for individuals wishing to pursue future specialist training in small animal medicine, preparation for ANZCVS small animal medicine membership examinations or to simply expand their knowledge and experience for general practice. Previous ARH interns have continued on to residency positions worldwide.

Requirements

Candidates must be eligible for veterinary registration at least in NSW, have at least 1-2 years of clinical experience, excellent communication skills and a strong knowledge base on which to build. The position includes 4 weeks annual leave and 1 week study leave.

The opportunity has opened up for 2 x Nurses to join our Medicine team on a full-time basis in our hospital at Homebush. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Nurses looking to expand their knowledge; supporting specialists in the field as they treat a wide range of cases such as gastrointestinal disease (including liver, pancreas and bowel disease); cardiac and respiratory disease; endocrine problems (such as diabetes and thyroid disease); kidney and liver; immune system; and joint disease.

We are pleased to offer two newly created positions for recent graduates who aspire to work as Emergency and Critical Care Veterinarians. The successful candidates will join our busy hospital team, working under the mentorship of our experienced ECC Specialists and Veterinarians to provide the best patient care. This is a permanent full-time opportunity working an average of 38 hours per week – a variety of day, evening, weekend and overnight shifts.
